google+ name crimes

I have been really really busy lately writing a desktop app for the first time in nearly 10yrs and it has been fun. Of course, it has to integrate into the web services provided by a web site I have also been writing for Company X for the last 2yrs, so I have actually enjoyed the learning curve.

However, this post is not about that.

It is about something far more serious. Google+ name crimes. Thanks to BennyCrime for bringing this important and under-reported issue to light. Good to know that I’m not the only person name-criminal whose account has been suspended without any notification because of this.

So, Dear Google… this is dumb. Please change your policy or risk losing users. We don’t all want our real names out there for the world to see and search for. We are happy using our nicks. That’s why we have them. That’s why nicks have been used online ever since “online” existed.

Lots of love

The New Blog

Are they even called “blogs” these days?

Whatever… What to say? What to say?

After all this time I finally decided that it just isn’t worth the time and effort to write one’s own blog engine anymore. Sure, of course, I *could* if I wanted to, but I don’t want to.

I think it’s like programmers text editors. Yes of course, I could write my own if I wanted to but really? I would rather spend my time writing actual code rather than the tools to write the code.

Lazy? No. It’s just that the blog engines (and programmers text editors) available these days for free are plenty good enough. In fact, they are better than good enough. Better than I could write unless I dedicated my entire working life to the task for a significant amount of time, in fact.

Which I don’t want to do. Which is why WordPress. And maybe some custom plugins if I feel the need.

And the point of this blog?

To write about the issues I face and the solutions I come up with whilst I continue the development of gagfoot, as well as all the other projects I am involved with, which currently looks like: a bunch of C#/.NET, some Qt, lots of PHP, the obligatory JQuery, and lots of SQL.

That’s it really. No personal stuff. No politics. Just geek.

Comments and corrections and disagreement are more than welcome anytime.

Thanks
